Info

A listed building occupying a site on the south side of Madeira Street in Edinburgh.

The co-owners employed a local Building Surveying practice to look after the project on their behalf whilst maintaining control over the budget and the scope of repairs they wanted to accomplish.  The roof was stripped and reslated and all leadwork replaced.  Two chimneys were rebuilt and the elevation masonry repointed with lime mortar.

This project also had a structural repair element as the masonry in the gable elevation had over the years developed a bulge which needed to be rectified.

The gable was carefully taken down and rebuilt utilising as much of the salvaged original stone as possible. Structural engineers were engaged, and a new tie detail was installed to prevent any future movement in the building.
